NBA 2K25: the sales deadline and server shutdown are different dates

2K’s updated notice separates October’s sales withdrawal from December’s online-service shutdown. Here is what existing owners need to check.

As of 6 October 2026: NBA 2K25 has two different upcoming deadlines. One concerns new purchases; the other concerns online services. Existing owners should check which activities they rely on, rather than read either date as “the whole game disappears”.

Two dates with different consequences

The dates announced in NBA 2K Support’s updated notice
DateWhat the notice says
30 October 2026NBA 2K25 will no longer be available to purchase.
31 December 2026Online services are due to be discontinued.
1 January 2027 onwardOnline play and online functions will be unavailable.

The official shutdown notice, updated on 2 October, says existing owners can redownload the game and use offline modes. It does not give an exact shutdown hour or timezone.

A solo activity can still need a server

2K specifically says MyCAREER and MyTEAM will be unavailable after the shutdown, and earning VC will no longer be possible. It names Play Now, MyNBA, The W and MyWNBA as offline options, while warning that server-dependent features—including online leagues and community sharing—will not work.

Read that list alongside your edition. The game’s FAQ identifies PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam PC as its New Gen versions; it also lists PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch editions. The shutdown notice is not a platform-by-platform promise that every named mode exists in every edition.

Make a mode-by-mode plan

Start with the activities you actually play. Write down the mode, your platform and whether the features you use depend on online services. Then compare that list with the support notice. “I play alone” is not enough to establish that a mode will remain available.

For example, someone choosing between a supported offline match and a server-connected career is asking about two different dependencies. The important distinction is access to the service, not whether another human opponent appears on screen.

There is no reason to treat the sales deadline as an instruction to buy quickly. Check the current notice again before making any decision. These are announced future changes; this article does not report a hands-on shutdown test. For separate news about a newer edition, see NBA 2K27’s City and crossplay limits.
