Reading and website delivery
Your browser sends technical connection information to the server delivering a page, such as your IP address, the requested URL, time of access and browser information. This is needed to deliver the page and protect the service. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in providing a secure, usable website under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR.
The public website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare processes network and request information to deliver and secure it. Cloudflare, Inc. is based in the United States and operates internationally. Its privacy policy explains its roles, retention criteria and international-transfer safeguards, including its Data Privacy Framework participation and use of standard contractual clauses where applicable. We do not create advertising profiles from server logs.
Search and links
Typing into story search filters the article list in your browser. We do not send those keystrokes to a search or analytics service. A search term included in a page URL can still appear in browser history and the request sent to the server. References are ordinary links: opening one takes you to a separate website with its own privacy practices. Images and fonts are delivered with our pages; we do not embed social-media feeds or third-party video players.
Cookies and saved preferences
The reader interface does not set advertising or analytics cookies. You can read without creating an account, commenting or subscribing to a newsletter. Administrator sign-in is separate and can use WordPress authentication cookies.
If you choose “Use necessary only”, we save that request in your browser’s local storage, with a validity period of 180 days. The record contains the policy version, your choice and its expiry time; it has no reader identifier and is not sent to us. It is stored to remember the privacy control you requested, rather than to track you. Nothing is saved by this control before you make a choice. A changed policy or expired preference requires a new choice. An expired record is removed on your next visit; browser storage cannot delete itself while the site is closed.

lets you refuse optional services again or remove the saved preference. Clearing browser storage also removes it. If storage is unavailable, the choice applies only to the current page. Optional services stay off when a choice is missing or cannot be read.
Advertising and analytics
No advertising or audience-analytics service is currently active. The site does not sell or share reader data for behavioural advertising. No ad request is made by choosing necessary-only settings. If advertising is introduced, the notice and vendor-specific consent options must describe it before it is enabled. A general site preference is not consent to an advertising vendor.
Email enquiries
If you contact [email protected], we receive the sender address, message, attachments you include and email routing information. We use these to handle your enquiry, correction or business discussion. The basis is our legitimate interest in responding under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, or Article 6(1)(b) where your request concerns a contract with you.
The mailbox is provided by Gmail. Google processes email under its applicable terms and privacy policy, including the international processing and safeguards described there. Clicking an email link opens your email application; it does not automatically send a message. Please include only information needed for your enquiry.
Retention
Enquiries are retained until the enquiry is resolved and no further follow-up is reasonably needed; longer only for applicable legal retention duties or a concrete legal claim. Necessary excerpts documenting an article correction may be retained with the article history; unrelated contact details should be removed. Hosting-provider records are retained according to the service’s delivery, security and legal-obligation criteria, as described in its privacy information. Saved browser preferences expire as described above.
Your rights and choices
Subject to the conditions in the GDPR, you can request access, correction, erasure, restriction and portability of your personal data. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests. Where processing relies on consent, you may withdraw it without affecting earlier lawful processing. No automated decision with legal or similarly significant effects is made about readers.
Contact [email protected] to exercise these rights. We may request proportionate information needed to verify a request. You also have the right to complain to a data-protection supervisory authority, including the Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information.
Changes
The update date identifies this version. Material changes to optional services require updated information and, where required, a fresh consent choice.
